Timeline of the Disney Princesses
Snow White (1937)
The first of all Disney princesses , Snow White appeared in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. The actions of her jealous stepmother cause her to run away, but her good nature and ability to make new friends is what ultimately saved her. Snow White brings out the best in her new dwarf friends thanks to her resilience and optimism.
Cinderella (1950)
Hardworking Cinderella never gives up. Though her life is tough she still finds time to be kind and giving to her animal friends. Disney's Cinderella was first released in 1950 but her classic fairy tale and determination to never give up still resonates today.
Aurora (1959)
Kind and gentle Aurora first appeared in Sleeping Beauty in 1959. Princess Aurora is a dreamer who inspires us to always wonder what is possible. A believer in true love, Aurora is beautiful, graceful and sweet-natured without being vain.
Ariel (1989)
The embodiment of curiosity and adventure, Ariel loves to explore. Her desire to learn about humans also makes her passionate and tenacious. The Little Mermaid was released in 1989 but Ariel's free spirit remains just as relevant today.
Belle (1991)
Belle knows that its what's on the inside that counts and so she always sees the best in people. She is selfless and puts her father before herself when rescuing him. Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991 Inquisitive and a lover of books, Belle is independent and true to herself even if it means not fitting in. Jasmine (1992)
When Aladdin was released in 1992, we were introduced to Princess Jasmine. Open-minded and generous, Jasmine selflessly looks after others; a fantastic trait for the future leader of Agrabah. Princess Jasmine is also strong-willed and daring, she knows her own mind and isn't afraid to stand up to her adversaries.
Pocahontas (1995)
In '95 Pocahontas was released for the first time in cinemas. Pocahontas taught John Smith, and us, all about the beauty and importance of nature. She knows that the Earth should be respected and bravely advocates peace between her tribe and the settlers. Her caring nature allows her to be free-spirited and seek her own path.
Mulan (1998)
This fearless princess has been teaching us to be a leader since we first met her in Mulan (1998). She is all about honor and loyalty. Both clever and tough she proves that girls and boys are just as good as each other.
Tiana (2009)
Ambitious and confident, Tiana became a princess in the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog . Her talent and determination to succeed prove that you can do anything, just remember that life also needs to be fun.
Rapunzel (2010)
Rapunzel is the star of 2010 movie Tangled where her inquisitive nature allowed her to jump into a new adventure. She is creative and her many hobbies keep her extremely active, despite living most of her life in a tower.
Merida (2012)
The movie where we first all saw Merida sums her up to a tee; Brave (2012). She's not afraid to break tradition and speak her own mind. Princess Merida is headstrong which sometimes leads to disagreements with her mother. Ultimately, she takes responsibility for her actions and knows that family is what is important.
Moana (2016)
The latest addition to our Disney Princess list , independent Moana will one day rule the people of her island. While staying compassionate and respectful, she teaches young people everywhere the importance of knowing who you are and staying true to yourself.
